This could be a hopeless (or clueless?) question, but...are there any sources for the classic Skrip cartridges with burgundy ink? I've had *some* luck finding emerald green, but burgundy--which I wish Sheaffer would bring back, but that undoubtedly IS hopeless!--must be rare, indeed. Also, I'm thinking that I *could* save some old, used cartridges, buy burgundy ink made by anybody, and refill...but. I've seen references to buying a syringe--I'm assuming of the very fine-point variety, like a hypodermic needle--at a drugstore for use with refills. Is it REALLY possible to find syringes that easily, given great suspicion about what one might be using a syringe for? My wife is a piano technician, and has had to buy syringes for detailed work in repairs, and she had to go to a medical supply store, and even then, she was looked at suspiciously and grilled re: why she wanted a syringe. So...should I be looking for a different, less suspect sort of syringe? Thanks. New to the list/forum, glad to be clueless, willing to take suggestions from list members more in-the-know than I, etc. :) |

I have 4 gold plated Shaeffer pens that are about 20 years old. They were produced in Fort Madison, IA. Two of them are fountain pens and two are regular. One of the fountain pens is larger in size. How can I find out what they might be worth? |

Old Pens-Glass dipping pen plus early ink pen
I have recently found two pens belonging to my great grandmother and to my grandmother amongst the belonging of my father. I am not sure if my great grandmother's pen is a Sheaffer, but it was in a Sheaffer box. It is a glass dipping pen. The stem is made of hollow glass and is filled with different coloured sands. The nib has a fne bulbous twist with lots of grooves, and then there is a very fine point. Did Sheaffer make such pens? The second pen belonging to my grandmother has a lever side action refil. It is of a brown material with golden streaks. Could be tortoise shell. It has the IOWA factory address imprinted on it plus my grandmother's married name, so it is post 1928. Is there an archive of photographs I can reference the pen to? |

sheaffer workers on here?
hello. my grandfather, verle johnson worked at sheaffer's in fort madison for a long time...probably the 1950sish to 1990s...just wondering if anyone else worked during this time on these boards and perhaps knew him. also, i recently found an old tin pencil lead holder at a thrift store for 25 cents...just wondering if anyone knew what it would be worth...not that i'm selling it...it is all i really have that symbolizes my grandfather...but my father saw it and said that it was worth something. just curious. it is blue and yellow and has red leads inside of it. |

Lady Sheaffer date
I recently acquired a black and gold lattice Lady Sheaffer model 632 fountain pen with a 14K gold Stylpoint inset nib. I was told it dates to the late 1960's but I think it is more around the early 70's. Does anyone know the exact year(s) when this model was produced? Thanks so much. |

I bought a Sheaffer Targa sterling silver (not hallmarked for the UK market) with thin lines, fountain pen Model 1004 (I think) with a 585 14K inlaid nib and a matching ball point pen way back in 1976. I have not used them very much and thought maybe someone would be interested in buying them. I have photos that I can e-mail if any one is interested in purchasing them. |

how to use series 300 mechanical pencil...
I have purchased Sheaffer mechanical pencil from an Australian store. I think it is a 300 series model (the box didn't have any indications) -- but by looking at the pictures on the Internet I think it is a 300 series indeed. I am unable to find the online manuals for 300 series, so I thought I'd ask on this forum. I would like to know about the features of the pencil and it's maintenance (e.g. refilling) -- as I don't want to just push/twist things with force... Namely, how does one refill the pencil? Also, the body seems to twist both ways (clock-wise and anti-clock-wise): 1) one way appears to advance the lead forward with the body automatically returning/twisting back; 2) rotating in the other way also appears to advance the lead but then "clicks into place" whilst leaving the lead "freely moving" -- what is it for? How is one advised on using such features? Also, some ads say that the pencil has "protective tip to guard against lead breakage" -- it appears to be just a static (not moving) metal tip... is it all there is to it, or is there a way for this thing to be manipulated further somehow? Moreover, are the following features present (it's ok if they are not -- but it would be good to know): auto-advance; and advancing by shacking ? Thanks for reading this rather long(ish) post :-) |

I recently uncovered a set of writing instruments that belonged to my mother. She obtained them sometime in the 1960's. The set consists of a sterling silver whitedot ballpoint pen with and floral(?) design and a matching sterling silver white dot pencil. the set is in its original box and is in excellent condition. Can anyone hazard a guess at the value of this set. Further would anyone be interested in becoming its new owner? |

Hi - I am looking for information regarding, what I believe to be a 1956 snorkel pen and pencil set. The set includes a white dot cartridge pen, a white dot old fashion draw fountain pen, and a mech. pencil (no white dot). The set comes in a brown case that is embossed with an alligator pattern, with a wine velvet colored interior. I have never seen one these sets on any of the auction sites. I would like to put it on ebay, but don't know what to start the bidding at. I was lucky enough to talk to a collector that sold just one of the white dot snorkels for over $300. at auction. If there is anyone who might give me an idea on this 3 piece set, or if anyone would like to be the lucky new owner, please contact me at dhlyankee@aol.com. Thanks for your help. Diane |

Hello everyone. Please help me to identify Sheaffer pen. I just got this (http://mumrik.mori-tori.com/my_pen/IMG_0113.jpg) black pen with white dots at each end. This pen has lever filler and looks like Balance model. The barrel is imprinted with "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO.; FORT MADISON, IOWA. U.S.A.; MADE IN U.S.A.; 1250." Nib is marked: "SHEAFFER'S; REG U.S. PAT. OFFICE; MADE IN U.S.A.; 14K." I have researched, but I can't find an identical models. I was looking at EBAY auctions tonight for bottles of vintage Sheaffer ink and saw an auction for a bottle of Sheaffer washable blue ink that was manufactured in Canada. I'm familiar with the Fort Madison, Iowa production of ink but didn't know there was ink made in Goderich, Ontario, per the box on EBAY. This box appears to be early 1960's vintage. Does anyone have any information on Canadian years of production or information in general about this? Thanks.... |

I bought a vintage gold-plated fountain pen recently. it has a short area of black plastic above the nib with a half hoop of gold on that. the whole pen barrel is very thin. On the clasp there is a white dot. there is no name denoting the model. The pen is very smooth wring with the ink i had (black Quink ink, though I need to source a retail outlet for Sheaffer ink in the UK. I live in Northumberland. Hugo |

I have a Sheaffer, silver colour fountain (a part of a set of Fountain & Ball) with a stainless steel narrow nib. The problem is that the nib shakes everytime to write and makes it impossible to create legible language. I am not sure of what model it is but its a got unique motif band engraved in steel (probably) at the edge of the pen's cap. Somebody said its a Lady. Please inform me of its name and also how to have it repaired. I consulted a few repair centres who informed that its a manufacturing defect but I still want to confirm it. |

Sheaffer Balance Oversized Fountain Pens have a great feel to my hand. Does Sheaffer make any Fountain Pens today with those sort of dimentions? I'm concerned primairly with thickness of the pen (vs. weight or length), as many of the pens today feel too small in my hand. Anything that size or bigger? |

I have a CM64 Ring Top, Midget sized, gold filled ribbon pattern pen & pencil set, circa 1921. They are in a royal blue presentation box white satin top, blue velvet style bottom. The pen is a lever action without ink reservoir or gold nib. (the plastic nib holder is present) The pencil seems complete but without lead but with lead container and eraser. I would like to have them both refurbished and returned to full use. If anyone can suggest a contact who does this type of work I would be obliged; if the cost would outweigh their value (I have no idea as to their value)I would also like to know, although I would probably have the work done anyway. Thanks for any advise |

Lifetime Balance nibs?
Hello, I was recently given a gift of three old pens, of which two are WWII era Sheaffer Balances. One of them had been restored and is now in use, but the other will need some restoration done, including either repair or replacement of the nib as it is missing the end of one tine. Doe anyone know of a source of nibs for thise pens? From the clues found on several Web sites, it's a lever-fill Thin Standard Lifetime Balance in striated Marine Green. The nib is gold-plated on the top side only, and marked: 014933 Sheaffer's Lifetime Reg US Pat Off Made in USA Thank you for any assistance you can offer. Mike |

I just inherited a Sheaffer pen and pencil set (black barrel with silver tops), nestled in their flocked bed insert, in the original black and clear plastic box. And a Guarantee slip dated December 25, 1965 from the Ohio Pen Shop at 115 East Fifth St., Government Square, Cincinnati,Ohio. Does this set have any value beyond their everyday use? If I were to put it up for sale, how much would be a fair price to ask? Thank you for any help, Ellen |

Hi I have a Sheaffer fountain pen here that has a 14K LIFETIME nip, 14K clip, and a 14K band at the bottom of the cap that is 1.5cm wide. It also has a white dot on the top of the cap. It is not a snorkel and I do not think it is a triumph....It resembles them almost in every way other than it has a solid body that is all smooth and fills with a lever on the side....Would really appreciate it if anyone could help me identify it....and help me determine its value...A friend wants to purchase it and wants to be fair but not knowing its worth is frustrating ....Thanks |

Sheaffer Watch
Hello, I have a Sheaffer watch that was a sample produced for a promotion in New Zealand back in the 90's, however this never eventuated so only one was produced. The watch is gold in colour with black straps, it also has a white face with the old red Sheaffer logo printed on it. The watch doesn't work and I assume it's because the battery's flat, although I have never worn it. If there are any collector's that are interested in purchasing it I can email photos. |

I'm in the dark about the pens that my dad left behind when he died. I will try to describe them. Two tortoise shell pens. One is just over 5 inches the other is 5 1/2 inches. The longer one is a torpedo shape and the shorter one has blunt ends. both nibs are in very good shape and have 'Lifetime' on them. The one on the torpedo pen has a number 3181176. I can't see any cracks or chips. I would like to sell them but don't know where to begin. Thanks for any help. |

Hi. This week my son was given a sheaffer fountain pen that used to belong to his Great Grandad. We would like to know about it if anyone can help? The pen comes in a goldy-brown, heavy, silk lined hinged case. On the inside lid of the case there is the Sheaffer's name. Unfortunately, the instructions in the case are for the Snorkel pen, and this quite obviously isn't one of them! The pen itself is complete and has a green mother of pearl apperance with a clip on the lid that bears the Sheaffer mark. The nib is 14 crt gold and says Conway Stewart. When I Googled this I didn't see one resembling this one. On the side of the pen there is a small metal lever? I pressume this is for drawing up ink. Can anybody tell me what model it is, how you draw up ink and approximate value? We'll never sell it but I'd like to know just in case I need to look after it myself until my son is responsible enough to appreciate it. Many thanks in advance Caroline |

Hi, I am from Aruba , Dutch Caribbean. Recently my mother gave me her Sheaffer's pen which she received at age 15 from her father. This was the year 1949. The pen is intact and has a 14K point. The pen uses inkt. I looked the model up in your Website and found it as a model of the fifties . I want to know where I can get the refill for this pen. I will be in Florida in august and would like to bring the pen to a retail outlet. |

I have come across a pen in my parents loft that was left to them 12 years ago, I have no idea of it's age, but it is a green plastic looking pen with gold nib, then end squares off and can be undone and pulls out I presume to suck up the ink. It has a gold ring around the pen lid and a gold clip with sheaffer's on it. Does anyone have any idea which model it would be and if it is worth anything, it is still in it's orginal box. |

I just uncovered a long-neglected, Sheaffer PumpWell fountain pen. It must have been part of a desk set. No cap, Nib lookes like all the ones I've seen on sites today that say Valor, with the long gold nib that has a long diamond shape of the plastic showing. I know nothing about this pen. Can I find instructions somewhere on how to clean and care for this pen? The nib says, "SSHEAFFER 14K 585" There is an R in a circle (registered trademark symbol?) and at the far end of the nib it say USA. It has a white dot at the "non-business" end of the pen. The pen opens to pump the well by unscrewing up at that same end. There's a joint near the business end of the pen but I can't seem to unscrew it. Don't want to force it and damage it. Looking for suggestions, advice??? |

I have two sheaffer writing instruments. I would like to know the approximate value of each, if anyone would be obliged to assist me with this request. Following are the descriptions. Forgive for I am not versed in "pen terminology". - Sheaffer 283 Rolling Ball. - Sheaffer. Orange plastic barrel,gold-tone center band, and nib, same gold-tone "clicker" that operates from the side like a see-saw. the barrel is round, however the end opposite the nib, develops to square shape. |

In the family since I don't know when some research indicating the late teens of 20th century to third decade. A beautiful marble or jade ashtray, with a dog attached, looks like a German Shepard. The nib says Sheafers 5-30. It is a long thinner pen I've seen in other pictures w/the price tag still attached 5-30D and $5.00. I am hesitant to mess w/any parts, the thin fixture to pull the ink up goes up only so far. Green felt underneath the ash tray U.S. Patents 1641829. The pen itself says patents Dec 10 12 then then Jan 27th and Oct 20-Nov 2414. Well I was thinking of putting it on e-bay, it had always been a pretty piece, but times are hard. Can anyone identify this set, and its approximate value? Thank you in advance. |

Hello, I'm a new member and joined to try and learn anything I can about an old Sheaffer pencil that I have owned since my grandfather left it to me when he died, back in 1968! It is red, white and blue. The white section appears to be mother of pearl. There is a crest on this part consisting of an eagle perched on top of a shield? and "United States Navy" written underneath. There is no lead in it but it still has the eraser on the top. My grandfather was in the British Army during WW2 and I can only assume he was given it then. I would love to know it's history/value and would love to hear from anyone who may know something/anything about it. Cheers, Mandi (from N. Ireland) |

Hello. This is my first post. I'm a new collector having trouble identifying some Sheaffer ball pens. Can anyone tell the names of the following: #1. Plastic clicker, chrome cap, plastic barrel? #2. square clicker, chrome cap, plastic barrel? #3. slanted top on chrome cap, plastic barrel, short reminder clip? #5. flat top on chrome cap, plastic barrel, standard clip? #6. long slender pen, aluminum clicker?, chrome cap, plastic barrel? Are they Sylists? #7. gold-filled, crome, plastic combos of cap/barrel, reminder clips are long and slender and gapped at the top, some have white dots, some S's, some nothing. #8. slender pens, brushed chrome caps, plastic barrels, white dot, short reminder clips? Are they Triumph Imperials? I would be grateful for any help. Thank you. |

Sheaffers Admiral Snorkel
I have been collecting and repairing Sheaffers Snorkel fountain pens for a while. I acquired another Admiral for repair and noticed that above the usual imprint on the barrel "W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co., Fort Madison, Iowa,U.S.A, Made in U.S.A," it has the numerical imprint 0004. Seems to be a series number and not the typical model number. Anyone have any ideas? |

Can someone help me figure out what pen this is. I have a Sheaffer that is what I have seen referred to as brown striated design. It has the white dot. The nib says Sheffer's, LIFETIME, Reg. U.S. Pat. Off., Made in USA, 14K. The pen is streamlined from the body to the nib. The cap has a sort of wide gold band where it connects, with a couple of lines in the band. It appears the end of the pen is supposed to unscrew and pulls out to load ink. Any help as far as determing the year would be helpful. It is a beautiful pen. |

Fineline Ball Point
Hi, I have a Sheaffer Fineline Ball Point Pen, Black barrel & Copper colored cap. The "cartridge" is metal (silver colored) has "Z D A Micro-crafted" engraved as well as the usual Sheaffer info. Is this replaceable (if so with what and where can I get it)? Or is it permanent and refillable (if so how?). Thanks! |

I'm trying to identify the model and age of a Sheaffer fountain pen I acquired. On the barrel, besides the Sheaffer Pen Co. part, it has a tiny 350 stamped into it and above a woman's name ''ETHEL ANHOLZER''. It's green/gold striped, with a small ring of gold around the very bottom edge of the cap. Lever fill. |

Identifying a ballpoint
I was given a pen from my father nearly ten years ago, which I unfortunately lost a short time later. I believe it was an Agio, but I'm unsure. The barrel was about a half-inch in diameter, and seemed to be brushed stainless steel (or chrome). It had gold trim, and the cap attached to the end of the pen which was shaped like this (______) (best I can do), so that when it was attached it would be flush with the pen. It looked very nice and was remarkably comfortable to write with. It was just this small feature that seems to be missing from the current Agio's (just from the photos it seems, I haven't seen one up close), so I get the impression they are one in the same. Can anyone tell me where I could either find this pen, or if the current Agio's are the same? |

I purchased a Sheaffer White Dot Crest Fountain pen with Triumph nib and vacuum fill. (1947?) The cap is metal and has almost all the goldplating gone. I have been told that these caps were silver underneath the goldplate. Is this true? The estimate for replating the cap is $60. If it is silver, I'll leave it alone. Thanks for any info.... |

I'm trying to identify the model and age of a Sheaffer fountain pen I acquired. It says Feather Touch on the two-tone nib, and #5. On the barrel, besides the Sheaffer Pen Co. part, it has a tiny 500 stamped into it. It is 4-7/8" long and brown/gold striped (or striated), with a small ring of gold around the very bottom edge of the cap. Lever fill. Of the pictures of Feather Touch 500's I have seen, none have had the small ring at the very bottom edge of the cap. |

Just a Hi! as I just joined the list. I'm in Alaska and have a collection of several Sheaffers ranging from very old to new production. I became interested in collection Sheaffer while remembering my high school days ('65-'68) and a fountain pen I had. I would be extemely interested in finding one like it. Satin aluminium barrel and top with black nib unit in what was either XXXF or XXXXF steel. I'll be periodically lurking and will provide info as I can. Good collecting everyone. |

Clogging and drying up
Sheaffer seems to have reformulated Skrip ink some time in the last few years; I finally ran out of bottled ink, and had to buy a new supply. Almost immediately, I started having problems with nibs clogging and drying up. Switching back to some older Skrip cartridges that I had lying around cured the problem, so it's clearly related to the ink somehow. Anybody else seeing this? Suggestions on what to do? |

Looking for a Pencil
I am trying to find a Slim Targa pencil, Sterling Silver, straight line design, probably #1004. Looks like a 1005 which are plentiful in gold on ebay. But apparently maybe the design was changed without chnaging the number. What I want is the more bold single line pattern. I have been shipped now three pieces with a very delicate line, which is not what I need. I had the whole set and loved using it. I left the pencil in a restaurant. Alternately, since i now have the pencil and ballpoint in the lighter line finish, I could take the Rollerball in that finish. Any help will be appreciated. >>RSM |

Recently I have got this addiction of collecting Sheaffer and cross pens. But to tell the truth, I am liking sheaffer more than cross because of its style, looks, class and elegance. Last pen I bought is gift collection 2 with marble finish. I am fully satisfied with the instrument. Moreover, its weight is accurate which give good writing and solid grip. Just want to request if its possible to add a roller in the same collection so that i can complete my set. |

Greetings, I am new to fountain pen collecting and recently acquired a Sheaffer at an estate sale. I was hoping to get some assistance with identifying aspects of the pen, specifically the approximate year made and anything else unique (value, is it a common pen, etc.). It is black in color. I believe it is the 'lever-filler' type. The pocket clip and wide cap band are marked 14K. The clutch ring is gold in color, but is not marked. The 4 line embossing appearing horizontally on the pen reads: "0673", "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO.", "FORT MADISON, IOWA, U.S.A.", "MADE IN U.S.A.". There are no corporate or personalized engravings. The nib reads: "SHEAFFERS", "REG. U.S. PAT. OFF.", "MADE IN U.S.A.", "14K". There are no signs of cracks or chips, and the pen seems to have mild, even wear. I have not attempted to use the pen. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!. Thank you. |

Has anyone out there had much experience of the alternate nib sections available for the Targa. I have a Sheaffer dest set, marble base, pen No.13 Snorkel, pen point unit, Fine. Made in Fort Madison, Iowa. Hasn't been used for years so internal mechanism probably dried out. Any ideas of how to rehabilitate this unit? Thanks |

I have a Sheaffer 501H pen set that I am planning to list on e- bay. I am wondering where to start with pricing. Also it has F1 point and is seems like you would fill by pulling out the end vacuuming up the ink. What do you call this type of filling? I don't know anything about pens and want to list it correctly. |

I have come into possession of a Sheaffer mechanical pencil depicting the Navy ship that I served on. I got it off of e-bay where the seller stated that it was from back in the late 1940's. How do I research the background on this item to find it's origin? |

Welcome back Sheaffer forum
Sheaffer's collectors corner was a favorite place. I enjoyed the posts on Sheaffer fountain pens, especially the vintage ones, and was sorry it had to go into hiatus because of (probably) the spam. I enjoy a large collection of old vintage sheaffer pens, from the hard rubber flattops of the 20's to the Targa's of the 80's. I hope others start/restart posting with questions and comments. Randy |
