Greetings, I am new to fountain pen collecting and recently acquired a Sheaffer at an estate sale. I was hoping to get some assistance with identifying aspects of the pen, specifically the approximate year made and anything else unique (value, is it a common pen, etc.).
It is black in color. I believe it is the 'lever-filler' type. The pocket clip and wide cap band are marked 14K. The clutch ring is gold in color, but is not marked. The 4 line embossing appearing horizontally on the pen reads:
"0673", "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO.", "FORT MADISON, IOWA, U.S.A.", "MADE IN U.S.A.". There are no corporate or personalized engravings.
The nib reads: "SHEAFFERS", "REG. U.S. PAT. OFF.", "MADE IN U.S.A.", "14K".
There are no signs of cracks or chips, and the pen seems to have mild, even wear.
I have not attempted to use the pen. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!. Thank you.

Jett, It is hard to tell from your description what year the pen was made. Sheaffer started making "balance" shaped lever filling pens about 1929, and continued through the 50's. If you go to www.richardspens.com and follow the reference links, there is a reference about sheaffer pen pocket clips which help to narrow down the year of manufacture. The pen will most likely need a new sac and this is not a hard job to tackle, nor is it expensive if you decide to send it to a vintage fountain pen repair person..
Good luck with your new pen, be careful, it can become an addiction...... LOL.
